Chief Medical Adviser
The Therapeutic Goods Administration within the Commonwealth Department of Health regulates prescription, over-the-counter and complementary medicines, medical devices and blood and cell and tissue products.
As the Chief Medical Adviser (Medical Officer Grade 6), you will provide expert medical advice on current and emerging issues to key stakeholders including Government, the Department, health care professionals, consumer organisations and industry. You will contribute to the strategic direction of regulatory reforms, and to the development of clinical policy relating to the functions of the TGA and the wider department. You will also provide clinical leadership to the 60 medical staff in the TGA and represent the Department in a range of high level forums across state and territory jurisdictions, regulatory authorities and external to government. This will include some periods of acting as the Chief Medical Officer of Australia (CMO) when the CMO is absent on leave or international business.

To be a strong contender for this role, you will need to be a qualified medical
practitioner with post graduate qualifications and leadership experience. Ideally, applicants will have a background or interest in public health, regulation and/or pharmacology and a solid understanding of the role of medicines and medical device technologies in contemporary health care and the contribution of regulation to public health outcomes. Your proven capacity to lead and drive change and work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders will be complemented by well-honed policy advisory, analytic, leadership and communication skills.
