The Island’s healthcare is provided by a National Health Service based on that in the United Kingdom but is independently financed and administered within the Isle of Man. Many of the changes brought about to the UK National Health Service, as a consequence of the extensive reorganisations of recent years have not been adopted in the Isle of Man.
Noble’s Hospital is situated in the capital of the Island and is equipped to the very latest standards with an Education and Training Centre and library situated in the grounds. The Hospital provides a comprehensive range of services typical of most District General Hospitals.
About the post and our Department
Within this post you would support improved direct Consultant supervised and delivered care on a day to day basis (in line with RCPCH Acute Care Standards) and continuity and efficiency of care.
You would be involved in all aspects of acute, ambulatory and out-patient general paediatrics and be the lead for the Children’s Diabetes services. Your duties would also include all aspects of acute level 2 neonatal, assessment of urgently referred cases of child protection concerns as well as management of medical Input into development of guidelines, policies and audit.
The Noble’s Hospital Paediatric Department is a small but dynamic and forward thinking unit. There is a 17 bed Paediatric ward with 2 dedicated HDU beds and a 9 cot newly built ‘state of the art’ Neonatal Unit meeting all BAPM standards. (We are a designated level 2 unit within the Merseyside/North West Network).
There are between 500 and 600 new GP referrals to Paediatric Outpatients annually and between 3500 and 4000 total paediatric patient episodes in OPD. There are between 1200 and 1300 admissions to the children’s ward and approximately 800 to 1000 deliveries with an admission rate to the Neonatal Unit of approximately 14%.
You would be joining a knowledgeable and supportive team of 3 WTE Consultants within Paediatrics and we are presently looking to expand visiting clinics with the possibility of introducing, for example, Clinical Genetics and Dermatology. An interest in the development of telemedicine and/or paediatric cardiology services would be highly welcomed in this new Consultant position.
To succeed in this post, you will need to have full registration with the GMC, MRCPCH/FRCPCH or appropriate specialist qualification and have entry onto the GMC Specialist Register.
