Consultant in Elderly Care Medicine
Our forward-thinking Trust is looking to reorganise the way our team delivers safe and effective care to our elderly patients with cardiac conditions across the whole healthcare system in Mid Hampshire. We are therefore looking for enthusiastic and motivated Geriatric Medicine Consultants who have, or wish to develop, a subspecialty interest in cardiology to become our first “Cardio-geriatricians”.
We would envisage that the successful candidates will form a link between our elderly medicine service and cardiology. Specific interests of the consultants would be taken into account when forming job plans but a suggestion of area of development would be the syncope service and would tie in with our recently developed frailty service. Depending on interest and previous experience we would offer the consultants a period of time, during which, additional training could be gained in areas such as heart failure, loop recorder implantation or cardiac pacing as well as general cardiology with the possibility of training in echocardiography. We pride ourselves on our integrated working with other specialties and community. We feel that these posts offer an exciting and innovative way of working and diversifying standard practices.
These posts will be predominantly based on the Basingstoke site, where all our cardiac services are located in the Sherborne building and where elderly medicine services are based on F floor. Our cardiology staff includes six consultant cardiologists with one associate specialist and currently an additional locum consultant. We offer services including primary PCI, elective angiography and stenting, both bradycardia pacing and complex devices such as ICD and CRT and have plans to develop electrophysiology services and additional cardiac catheter labs. We offer echo, MRI and CT imaging and have a well-developed hospital and community heart failure service.
On-call commitments are on the acute medicine rota for which there are an additional two PAs for on-call duties. There is a weekend ward round rota approximately 1:12 for morning ward round seeing targeted patients on the medical wards with time off in lieu.
Applicants should hold a CCT or equivalent in General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine or be with six months’ of completion.
