About the post
This is a new post designed to meet the increasing demand for specialist respiratory services within our island and this role will be the second consultant in our team providing a comprehensive range of services to our respiratory patients.
We are seeking to appoint a full time (10 Programmed Activities) substantive respiratory consultant. We would be especially keen to hear from applicants with an interest in Sleep/ Airways disease who can expand and develop this service.
The respiratory department currently supports a total of 10 inpatient beds and the consultant appointed to this post in conjunction with the lead will deliver daily sessions of care to respiratory inpatients, outpatient clinics, as well as alternative week bronchoscopy services.
We are a service that doesn’t like to stand still and we are looking for someone who can help develop and lead specialist areas of Interest like Sleep/ Home Ventilation, EBUS. Working with the Medical Division, the Respiratory team and the hospital management working, you will be part of a team working together to continuously develop acute medical services in light of evolving needs, guidance and innovations.
As part of your role, you will also be required to support the education and training of junior doctors, medical students, and multidisciplinary members of the acute medical team along with supporting the doctors on the acute medical team, ensuring that all Foundation doctors are appropriately supervised and their work reviewed.
The Department of Health and Social Care recognises the need for all medical staff on the Island to maintain connections with medicine in the United Kingdom and encourages links with other units as well as providing study leave with pay and expenses to attend approved conferences and workshops.
Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register, or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK.
