Specialty Doctor in Elderly Medicine with an Interest in Stroke
Applications are invited for a substantive post on a full-time basis. The appointee will be working in Stroke Medicine.
The department is committed to providing services to a high standard and we have excellent support from GP`s and intermediate care services are being developed.
This is an excellent opportunity within the Stroke department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.
The appointees will be based on the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (Pirton Ward); the Stroke and General Medicine Ward (Barley). When based on the HASU, the appointee will be responsible for the care of patients who are being initially assessed and monitored for acute stroke symptoms, supported by the 3 stroke consultants and trust registrar.
The Stroke Ward provides care for patients who require ongoing therapy and medical intervention including rehabilitation and the appointee will continue to manage the care of these patients.
Other duties include the support of the consultants with the provision of stroke thrombolysis. The appointee will be involved in seeing and assessing patients with acute medical conditions at all ages from 16 upwards.
Following the investment of £150 million in major new facilities at the Lister, along with a £30 million New QEII hospital built by the local clinical commissioning group, the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust has brought together all its specialist emergency and inpatient services at the Stevenage hospital.
Our state-of–the-art clinical facilities include a major new Emergency Department, the Hertfordshire Cardiology Centre (which includes a 24/7 PPCI service), new scanning centre, McMillan chemotherapy unit, ward, endoscopy and theatre blocks.
