The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital provides a comprehensive range of neuro-musculoskeletal health care ranging from the most acute spinal injury or complex bone tumour and surgical disorders of peripheral nerves to orthopaedic medicine and specialist rehabilitation for chronic back pain sufferers.  This broad range of neuro-musculoskeletal services is unique within the NHS.

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Peripheral Nerve Injury Surgeon (full-time).  The post would suit a candidate interested in nerve surgery regardless of background discipline.  Experience in micro, neuro and vascular surgery would be an advantage.

The Peripheral Nerve Injury Unit at the RNOH was founded over 50 years ago and is the largest of its kind in the United Kingdom and treats all aspects of surgical disorders of the peripheral nerve injury of the brachial and lumbo-sacral plexus including pain management and rehabilitation.

The appointee would be expected to work closely with the three PNI surgeons and the multi-disciplinary team in the management of patients with peripheral nerve injury. The post is based predominantly at the Stanmore site, although the successful candidate will be expected to undertake outpatient clinics in central London at our Bolsover Street outpatient department.

The successful candidate will participate in the on-call rota for the unit.

For an informal visit to the PNI Unit or for further information please contact: Tom Quick, Clinical Lead, Consultant PNI Surgeon, on 020 8909 5803, Michael Fox, Consultant PNI Surgeon, on 020 8909 5803 or Marco Sinisi, Consultant PNI Surgeon, on 020 8909 5803

All applicants for consultant posts must either be on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their CCT at the time of interview.

Demonstration of a commitment to training in Orthopaedic surgery, good communication and team working skills are essential.  Other experience in the form of audit or research is desirable.
