Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant ophthalmologist at Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will join a friendly, enthusiastic and forward thinking team. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic clinician with an interest in glaucoma. The appointee would join the ophthalmic team in delivering a modern high-quality Ophthalmology service which is responsive to patients’ needs and also help develop an integrated service at primary care level which will improve health outcomes. There will be opportunities for developing research and to be integral in shaping the future of the service. 

The Trust has recently restructured the Department of Ophthalmology at Yeovil District Hospital.  Ownership, responsibility and authority has been passed on to the Clinical Team to ensure best quality care is provided to all patients. This has been demonstrated with recent national audits in cataracts and the overall improvement in the quality of the service. The clinical team will be responsible for the delivery of activity to meet national, and local, targets, and within tariff.   Our key objectives for Ophthalmology are as follows:- 

  • To continue to provide outstanding care to patients.
  • Deliver services within tariff without jeopardizing service quality.
  • Increase and maintain market share within the local community.
  • Actively increase market boundaries.
  • Develop service sub-specialisation.
  • Develop cross site service strategy.
  • Maintain our excellent 18-week performance

Applicants must have MBBS and FRCOphth qualifications or equivalent and be fully registered with the GMC and hold a licence to practise.  Applicants must have entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview date), CESR or European Community Rights.  Having undergone a glaucoma fellowship is essential.
