Consultant Respiratory Physician with Expertise in Cardiac Sarcoidosis
Royal Brompton Hospital
The Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust is renowned nationally and internationally for excellence in diagnosis, treatment and research of patients with cardiothoracic diseases. It is the largest postgraduate specialist heart and lung centre in the United Kingdom with sites in Chelsea, London and Harefield, Middlesex. We strive to develop our staff both personally and professionally to ensure our patients get the first-class service they deserve.
The Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a full time Consultant Respiratory Physician with Expertise in Cardiac Sarcoidosis at Royal Brompton Hospital. This post is a new post.
In the Lung Division the appointee will join four full time physicians to provide specialist interstitial lung disease management for a workload of just over 1000 new referrals a year, evaluated as outpatients, day cases and inpatients. In the Heart Division the appointee will become a member of the cardiac sarcoidosis service, which is rapidly developing under the Heart Failure Care group.
In Lung Division; the appointee will co-provide, with the four consultant physician colleagues, a clinical service in interstitial lung disease in accordance with clinical and legal requirements, at a standard in keeping with the role of the department as a national and international clinical leader in the field. This will involve participating in a rotating roster, liaising closely with referring physicians in developing a “shared care” ethos. When rostered as the in-patient ILD consultant, the appointee will also be expected to provide specialist advice and/or help arrange and accept the safe transfer of patients from other trusts.
In the Heart division, the appointee will join a full-time consultant to provide specialist cardiac sarcoidosis management for a workload of approximately 250 new referrals a year, evaluated as outpatients, day cases and inpatients. The appointee will provide respiratory specialist management for patients with suspected or known cardiac sarcoidosis as well as respiratory specialist management in other heart failure patients if this is considered necessary given the increased recognition of inflammatory cardiomyopathies and respiratory comorbidities in the heart failure population.
Applicants are required to be fully registered Medical Practitioners and must be on the GMC’s Specialist Register or be eligible for admission to the Register within six months from date of interview for the post.
