Medical Retina Consultant Ophthalmology
Salary: £77,913 to £105,042 per annum
Programmed Activities: 10 PA’s
You are invited to apply for a Medical Retina Consultant in Ophthalmology at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
You will be working with 3 other Consultant Ophthalmologists. The post will require extensive experience in the management of Medical Retina and General Ophthalmology. You will be expected to actively participate in audit projects and lead on the Medical Retina Service Development.
This eye department is sub-serving Milton Keynes and the immediately surrounding areas. It consists of an out-patient department and day case surgery. In-patients are admitted at Stoke Mandeville Hospital at Aylesbury.
The out-patient eye department is in a self-contained spacious unit with 6 Consulting rooms (beside the orthoptic 6 rooms) and optometry (3 rooms) clinical areas and 2 treatment rooms which are fully equipped. Equipment includes ultrasound A & B scans, YAG and new Argon lasers [with an indirect delivery system], fundus camera and an OCT retina camera. There are 5 part-time Optometrists with contact lens and a Low Visual Aid Service. Three full-time and 3 part-time Orthoptists support the department as well as the Community Orthoptic Screening Service. The Artificial Eye Service is supported within the prothesis laboratory of dental department. The Ophthalmic nursing staff play an active role in the out-patient department.
There is an active teaching programme for junior staff in Ophthalmology. Continuous medical education at all levels is encouraged. There is a monthly departmental audit. As a department we are keen to develop our doctors encouraging their own professional development and goals. This post is non-residential.
As it is appropriate for a unit of this size, all Consultants are General Ophthalmologists who are able to manage any ophthalmic problem that may arise, although each surgeon has a particular special interest. Current Consultant interests are Glaucoma, Vitreo-retinal and Medical Retina, Strabismus and Paediatric Ophthalmology and Oculo-plastics. There are optometry shared care clinics. The Orthoptists beside their standard duties perform visual field testing and biometry.
You will be expected to participate in teaching both under and postgraduate students associated with the University of Buckingham and will also be expected to support colleagues doing these activities as part of his or her arranged job plan. This exciting new phase will include opportunities for undergraduate and post graduate teaching, enhanced research facilities.
