Consultant Anaesthetics with interest in Chronic Pain (2 posts)
We are seeking to appoint two enthusiastic full time Consultant Anaesthetists with interest in Chronic Pain management to join our dynamic multidisciplinary pain team at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS trust. The demand for our pain services is ever increasing, and this is an exciting time to join our team, as we are improving and expanding our services. Successful applicants will join an enthusiastic team of 4 committed and respected consultants currently providing chronic pain services at the City and other community sites. They join a team of further 39 consultants providing a separate general anaesthetic, critical care and on-call service.
The post attracts initially 10 programmed activities (PA’s) including on call and 2 supporting professional activities (SPA’s). The anaesthetic sessions can be tailored to individual’s sub-speciality interests. The on-call responsibilities are for the general on call rota at Sandwell site. Individuals with interest in acute pain or wishing to work purely chronic pain sessions with no on-call commitments are also welcome. Ideas of new clinics and innovative ideas in chronic pain will be supported. As a family friendly department, we are able to offer this position as full time or part time. We are also able to offer flexible working hours to tailor to individual’s needs. All consultants within the department currently work their anaesthetic sessions flexibly at both the City & Sandwell sites.
The Trust is one of the largest Teaching Trusts in the UK, employing around 7500 staff, serving a population of over 500,000 and having around 1000 beds. In partnership with CCGs and Local Authorities the Trust is seeking to deliver an ambitious redevelopment of local health services including new models of care and facilities. The plan includes a new state of the art acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan Hospital, which is set to be completed in the next few years.
Birmingham is a vibrant, multi-cultural city and it is a very exciting place to live and work. It has a population of 1.1 million, the youngest in Europe. The area boasts affordable housing with popular residential districts within an easy commute to either of the main hospital sites. There are a number of very good schools and colleges locally (including a number of independent and grammar schools).
The applicant must be on the GMC specialist register or, if currently in training, must be eligible to be on the specialist register for anaesthesia within six months of the interview date. In addition to the clinical responsibilities the department is looking for enthusiastic candidates who will bring new skills, knowledge and techniques to the department. It is essential that Consultants joining the department are innovative, flexible and committed.
