Consultant Cardiologist with an interest in Imaging

Applications are invited for this new position of Consultant Cardiologist with an interest in Imaging at The Great Western Hospital, Swindon. This is one of two new posts, the other with an interest in coronary intervention. The successful applicant will join the 6 other Cardiologists to deliver care to our local population. There will be no commitment to General Internal Medicine.

The Great Western Hospital was opened in 2002 and serves a rapidly expanding population of 350,000 in Swindon and the surrounding rural areas.

The purpose-built Wiltshire Cardiac Centre is a fully integrated unit. The department is progressive and forward-thinking. There is an active interest in research. The department is proud to have been recently re-awarded BSE accreditation in transthoracic, stress and transoesophageal echocardiography. All aspects of adult echocardiography are undertaken with state of the art equipment including 3D capability. We have an active FICE training programme. There are 2 CT scanners and 2 MRI scanners including a Siemens Aera scanner for undertaking cardiac MRI. We currently undertake 900 CT coronary angiograms per year. We have recently started undertaking CT FFR.

The department has 2 cardiac catheterisation laboratories with the local provision of PCI, simple and complex pacing and ICD implantation. There are full PCI facilities with rotablation IVUS and OCT.

There are dedicated outpatient facilities with a full range of non-invasive and invasive services.

The Consultant staff is supported by 2 Specialist Registrars, 2 Specialty Doctors and 5 other trainees.

The successful applicants should possess MRCP (UK) from the Royal College of Physicians (or equivalent). Full registration with the GMC is essential and applicants should be within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview or currently hold CCT or equivalent.
