Consultant in Acute Medicine
Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust is nestled in the heart of the stunning Pennine hills; the area which inspired the works of the Bronte sisters. We’re conveniently situated between the vibrant cities of Leeds and Manchester surrounded by a rich and varied heritage with breathtaking scenery, places to see and things to do.
The trust has developed proposals for the next, and very exciting phase in the Trust’s history. If approved they would create- over the next five years- more centralised care at our Trust in two specialist centres. An emergency care centre with a dedicated paediatric unit and a specialist centre for planned care in a brand new hospital alongside our new Acre Mills Outpatient centre, across from the existing Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
As a result of this service reconfiguration we are recruiting four consultant physicians in acute medicine/general internal medicine. The Acute Medical Service has recently undergone a significant service re-design. The acute medical units, on both sites, have developed Ambulatory Assessment Units (AAUs) to facilitate early assessment and treatment of referrals from GPs and the ED departments. The ambulatory units are supported by dedicated nursing staff and have agreed protocols for common medical presentations. There is rapid access to a wide range of diagnostic services such as radiology and endoscopy allowing admission avoidance or early discharge of patients. There is significant scope to increase the capacity of the ambulatory units and these additional posts would allow a greater continuous consultant presence during the day.
Applicants must be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining specialist registration at the time of interview and possess a Licence To Practise.
