Are you looking for an interesting and rewarding job with good work-life balance in a stunningly beautiful rural location within easy reach of the West Midlands conurbation?

If so, we would like to welcome you to join our friendly, supportive, forward thinking Cellular Pathology team, which currently includes eleven Consultant Pathologists (10.3 WTE). We are looking for a Consultant colleague to join our expanding Department supporting 520,000 people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid-Wales.

The Department is well-equipped and has full UKAS accreditation.  The laboratory processes 30,000 Surgical specimens and 2,000 non-gynae cytology specimens annually.

There were 720 coroner’s autopsies in 2017. The Consultants subspecialise in three to four areas of surgical pathology, in addition to general biopsy reporting, with a lead role in at least one specialty.  There are 10 MDT meetings weekly.

Most areas of Specialist Interest could be accommodated although Urology and Breast Pathology would be particularly useful.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust provides District General Hospital clinical services to the population of Shropshire and mid Wales with a dedicated Cancer and Haematology Centre at Shrewsbury.

There has been centralisation of specialties such as Surgery, Stroke and Cardiac as well as Interventional Radiology to improve services. We are looking forward to exciting changes with increasing investment in response to the Future Fit decision concerning the Counties care provision.

Shropshire is the largest inland county in the UK with Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, World Heritage sites and access to mid Wales and the Welsh coast. There are good schools, amazingly affordable housing and a wide range of leisure pursuits.

The post is for 10 Programmed Activities per week.

Flexible working is possible within a defined overall workload and there is no on-call commitment.

Any candidate who wishes to be considered for part-time or flexible working is welcome to apply.

For an informal discussion, please contact: Dr Sue Burroughs, Consultant Cellular Pathologist and Head of Department, email: susan.burroughs@nhs.net or telephone: 01743 261168 or click the apply button.
