A sub-tropical island of spectacular and beautiful landscapes in the South Atlantic with a warm and friendly population of 4,500, St Helena is a self-governing overseas territory of the UK. It’s now poised for transformation with the recent opening of a brand new international airport offering scheduled commercial air access. The 28-bed General Hospital in the capital, Jamestown, covers all areas of acute medical and surgical care.
In close co-operation with other Medical Officers and Midwives you will manage the island’s obstetric and gynaecology services and offer primary care, especially in areas such as family planning and genito-urinary medicine. You will undertake clinical audits as required and be a member of the general on-call rota.
Running obstetrics and gynaecology clinics as well as sharing in-patient duties, you will perform caesarean sections and hysterectomies, colposcopies, LLETZ, and endometrial ablations.
Playing an active part in health promotion and preventative care programmes, undertaking programmes of medical and clinical audit and helping in the collection of health information data, you will also have a role contributing to the clinical governance committee.
You must hold full GMC registration or equivalent and good standing with a licensing authority. Also required is MRCOG or equivalent and proficiency in obstetric/gynaecological ultrasonography, plus experience of endometrial ablation and insertion of tension-free vaginal tape.
We offer an extensive benefits package with 20 days leave pa, fare paid travel, freight, pension contribution and relocation allowances (see overseas vacancy information).
