Main purpose of the Job: 

To get further training in Oesophagogastric and Bariatric Surgery with an emphasis in improving competency for performing cancer and Bariatric Surgery

Introduction:

An opportunity has arisen for the appointment of a Senior Clinical Fellow in the Department of Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery, at Salford Royal. This is a 12-month post which will provide an opportunity to the successful appointee to develop and learn subspecialty-level skill in the management of Upper GI cancer and Bariatric Surgery. The post is specially designed to provide an opportunity to develop advanced surgical skill in laparoscopic Upper GI Cancer and Bariatric Surgery. Any specific need for research or training for the appointed candidate will be given consideration. The successful candidate will be part of the Upper GI and Bariatric Service and will take part in Upper GI Emergency surgical on-call rota as well as General Surgical On-Call

This post would be suitable for a Post CCT SpR or for an SpR (ST 7&8) who wish to take Out of Programme Experience (OOPE).

The newly reorganised Upper Gastrointestinal Surgical team consists of 9 surgeons providing oesophagogastric cancer and benign upper GI work for a population of 3.2 million of the Greater Manchester. The department also provides Bariatric Surgery for the whole of Greater Manchester. The unit will be performing over approximately 150 oesophagogastric cancer resection and well over 200 bariatric surgeries in a year.
