To commence August 2019 for one year

Do you want to be a cardiologist? An exciting opportunity has arisen for the successful applicant(s) to join the dynamic, award winning cardiology team in the Channel Island of Jersey as Clinical Fellow in Cardiology. This position is ideal for those early in their medical or cardiology career (post FY2 or CMT) who wish to gain a year of clinical, practical and academic experience in cardiology, whilst benefiting from the lifestyle advantages that Jersey offers. The position is also perfectly suited for doctors studying for the MRCP.

Situated just 40 minutes flying time from London with excellent transport links to Europe the small beautiful Island of Jersey enjoys great weather, sandy beaches surrounded by soaring cliffs and offers a healthy work-life balance.

The cardiology service is based at Jersey General Hospital and the Jersey Heart Team was chosen as finalist in the BMJ 2016 Cardiology Team of the Year awards. The post-holder will join our multi-disciplinary team of doctors and specialist nurses led by Consultant Cardiologist Dr Andrew Mitchell. The department has a strong academic track record and links with Oxford University Hospitals.

The successful post-holder will be encouraged to develop and coordinate innovative in and out-patient services and participate in clinical research. In addition, training will be provided in aero-medical transfers of acute cardiac emergencies.

The holder of this post is invited to contribute to weekend daytime cover for the Hospital Medical Emergency Assessment Unit on a 1:4 - 1:6 basis (Suggested 10am – 6pm on Saturdays and 10am – 4pm on Sundays). Additional weekend payments will be given for this cover.

Under Jersey Law, applicants must possess FULL registration with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice.

The States of Jersey is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable people (to include children) and requires all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. As this position will work with vulnerable people, the selection process will involve safeguarding measures and include an enhanced DBS check.
