Obstetrics & Gynaecology

The Obstetrics and Gynaecology service at Birmingham Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull is one of the largest services in the UK and is part of the Birmingham Local Maternity System which also includes Birmingham Women’s & Children’s Hospital. The service is recruiting to three vacancies created by promotion and retirement and seeks to consolidate its excellent Fetal Medicine service and capabilities in laparoscopic gynaecological surgery.

The Trust is committed to delivering the highest quality obstetric and gynaecological services to large, diverse communities across Birmingham, Solihull and Sutton Coldfield. The obstetric service delivers over 10,000 women per year and works collaboratively with a multi professional team, medical specialities and intensivists to deliver a range of specialist services. There is a commensurate large gynaecology workload with different sub-specialties including uro-gynaecology, fertility and early pregnancy loss.

The successful candidates will join a highly experienced, motivated and dynamic team of 34 consultants working across the three hospital sites of Birmingham Heartlands, Solihull Good Hope and engage in robust clinical governance and undergraduate and postgraduate training and education. Participation in research is expected and we have an active research group linked to the universities of Warwick and Birmingham.

The post is 10 Programmed activities with on-call for Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital and will participate in the Obstetrics Labour Ward on-site presence until 2300 hours and out of hours On-Call and gynaecology On-Call.

The successful applicant will have a special interest in gynae-oncology with an ATSM in oncology, together with skills in performing laparoscopic surgery and expertise in colposcopy.
