Consultant in Palliative Medicine & Medical Director
Wigan and Leigh Hospice
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Palliative Medicine and Medical Director for Wigan and Leigh Hospice. The post will be based at Wigan and Leigh Hospice and employed by WWL NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership at the hospice and form part of the senior leadership team together with the Chief Executive and Clinical Director. They will work closely with the other Consultants in Palliative Medicine, Dr Wiseman, who is based in the Acute Trust, and Dr Baron who covers both the acute trust and hospice, to deliver consultant-led specialist Palliative Care across the borough.
The hospice was founded in 1982 and moved to its present purpose-built facility in Hindley in 1997. The building is set in extensive grounds, and has been extended several times to enhance the services provided. These include 14 inpatient beds, therapy, counselling and outpatient rooms, and an expanding community service. The hospice is an independent charitable organisation, managed by a Board of Trustees and currently receives approximately one third of its funding from Wigan Borough Clinical Commissioning Group. The hospice accepts referrals for patients with any progressive life-limiting condition.
Applicants must have obtained MRCP or equivalent, be on the specialist register or be within six months of attaining their CCT in Palliative Medicine at the interview stage.
