Consultant Clinical Oncologist (Breast/Skin/Cup Cancers)
An excellent opportunity has arisen to become part of the Oncology team at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. You will be part of a team of 8
Consultants providing care to the population of Shropshire and Mid-Wales –
catchment of 520,000 people.
The posts are for 10 Programmed Activities per week and carry an on call
supplement for a 1:8 frequency. Applications are welcome from those unable to work full-time for personal reasons. The new state of the art Cancer and Haematology Centre provides dedicated facilities to patients at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. Clinical Oncology occupies the ground floor with Out-Patient clinics, Chemotherapy Day Centre (24 stations) and Radiotherapy facilities being co-located. The Radiotherapy Department offers an established Varian Truebeam linear accelerator installed 2013, a newly commissioned (2017) Truebeam with 6DoF couch, in addition to a 2100iX linear accelerator that provides KV imaging and CBCT to enable improved image guided radiotherapy. The latter will be replaced with a third Truebeam in 2018. IMRT (mainly Rapidarc) and IGRT is offered as standard to appropriate sites and the department has consistently achieved the required national targets with further planned increases. 4DCT lung and DIBH breast treatments are in clinical use.
A 30 bedded Haematology / Oncology Ward provides Specialised Care to Patients in a single setting. The department is highly research active with 396 patients recruited into 42 cancer trials in 2016/17, supported by a team of dedicated Oncology Research Nurses, Research Radiographers and Administrative support.
Specialist Registrars rotate to the Centre as part of the West Midland’s Deanery Clinical Oncology.
