Midlands Regional Genetics Service

1 Permanent Full Time Post, 1 Permanent Part Time Post

An exciting opportunity exists for two Consultant Clinical Geneticists to join our clinical service. The post-holders will be responsible for general adult and paediatric genetics referrals to clinics around the West Midlands region.

The Clinical Genetics Service is part of the West Midlands Regional Genetics Service, within Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. The service is based at Birmingham Women’s Hospital, which provides comprehensive genetics services to a diverse population of over 5 million people: there are excellent Cytogenetic, Molecular Genetic, Metabolic disease, inherited haemostatic disorder and screening services, all of which work closely together and are supported by a strong academic department.

The department has well developed services in mainstream medicine, particularly in neurology, cardiology, renal medicine, ophthalmology, oncology and endocrinology. The West Midlands Family Cancer Strategy has been at the forefront of service developments for families with a history of cancer.

The Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a tertiary referral centre for Fetal Medicine, Fetal Pathology, Obstetrics and Neonatal Medicine. The Birmingham Women’s Hospital is adjacent to University Hospital Birmingham and the University of Birmingham. The Birmingham Women’s Hospital is a member of the West Midlands Genomic Medicine Centre, delivering the 100,000 Genomes Project.
