Consultant Haematologist - Laboratory/Thrombosis-Haemostasis

We are seeking a passionate, committed Haematologist for a new position in our dynamic, progressive and multidisciplinary department at Waikato Hospital, the largest tertiary hospital in New Zealand.
The Clinical Haematology service is part of the Regional Cancer Centre and includes substantial Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Palliative Care departments. The team of 7 haematologists works with 5 registrars and 4 Nurse Specialists to provide first-class care to the multicultural regional population of 750,000. Based at Waikato Hospital, a 600-bed tertiary referral centre, the team provides services in haematological malignancies (including acute leukaemia, high-grade lymphoma and autologous transplantation in the inpatient service at Waikato Hospital), general and obstetric haematology, haemostasis-thrombosis and laboratory haematology. There is an active clinical trials programme. Waikato Hospital is a large teaching hospital and one of five campuses of the University of Auckland Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. The appointee has opportunities to become involved in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The Waikato DHB Laboratory operates over 5 sites, performing a wide scale of testing and processing over 8 million tests per year. Laboratory services include 10 colour flow cytometry, cytogenetics, molecular diagnostics, and specialist coagulation testing for the wider Midland region. A full-time Haematopathologist leads the service with support from clinical colleagues.

This position is full-time, with hours split approximately evenly between laboratory and clinical, with the clinical focus in thrombosis-haemostasis and general haematology, working with existing haematologists in both areas. The position will include participation in the after-hours roster, approximately 1 in 7. There is potential for flexibility in the roles.
Applicants will be a haematologist holding or eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (FRACP & FRCPA, or equivalent) either in Internal Medicine or Pathology.
