This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Respiratory consultant to join our diverse and successful team at Glenfield Hospital, helping to shape our specialist Bronchiectasis Service. The post holder will join our established and highly experienced Bronchiectasis MDT which has a national reputation for clinical excellence.

The adult Bronchiectasis has grown steadily over the last 12 years with specialist clinics and an open access service provided for patients. Dr Simon Range is Clinical Lead for Bronchiectasis and CF and is also a member of the NHSE Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD) Consortium as well as Medical Advisor for the PCD Society. Dr Chandra Ohri also has a special interest in Bronchiectasis and CF and has served on the BTS Lung Infection SAG. Professor Chris O’Callaghan leads the PCD diagnostic service at Leicester Royal Infirmary, one of only four nationally commissioned PCD centres. The Glenfield Bronchiectasis multidisciplinary team comprises of 2 physicians supported by a team of trainee doctors, 2 Bronchiectasis Nurse Specialists, 2 physiotherapists and 1 secretary.

The Bronchiectasis Team are based around ward 16 at Glenfield Hospital at any one time has approximately 8 bronchiectasis inpatients, as well as general respiratory patients. There is currently a weekly bronchiectasis clinic with 20-25 patients. At present there are approximately 600 patients in the Bronchiectasis Clinic, making it one of the largest bronchiectasis services in the country. The team also has close links with our microbiology, radiology and immunology colleagues. In addition, we also see many patients with complex pulmonary infection including nontuberculous mycobacteria. There are also several ward attenders throughout the week and the department runs a busy home IV antibiotic service. The department is currently taking part in a PCD genotyping study as well as several Bronchiectasis drug trials and there is opportunity for the post holder to undertake further research with the support of the Department of Respiratory Medicine’s NIHR Biomedical Research Centre.

The post holder will also contribute to our emergency care / on-call rota and support our inpatient base ward workload. Glenfield Respiratory services have a proven track record of innovation and the post holder will be expected to contribute to the on-going development of Bronchiectasis Specialist Service.
