The movement disorder service works within the Neurodisability service to advise on the management of children with congenital and acquired movement disorders, particularly those with cerebral palsy. The work is primarily outpatient based with MDT assessments, from which some children will be admitted for further treatment. There is some diagnostic work when the aetiology of the movement disorder is not clear.
Management advice is also given to inpatients where chronic and acquired brain injuries affect posture and tone. Therefore the suitable candidate should have specialist experience in in the diagnosis and management of neurological movement disorders and their complications. General developmental experience is also valuable as the successful candidate will be expected to conduct some ad-hoc inpatient developmental reviews.
We also run specialist clinics for Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy selection and in Botulinum Toxin assessment and administration. The candidate should also have experience in these areas but will be supported by the existing consultants and the therapy team if additional training is needed.
