Are you an Otorhinolaryngologist looking for a new opportunity?

MidCentral District Health Board is currently recruiting three Otorhinolaryngologists due to retirement and expansion of the department. These are full time, permanent positions commencing July 2019.

The ideal applicants will have general Otorhinolaryngology experience. Subspecialist interest is encouraged but not essential.

The department currently has sub specialty interest in Head and Neck and Otology and employs two registrars with plans to appoint a third registrar and a clinical Head and Neck Fellow commencing January 2019.

These positions are based at Palmerston North Hospital, a 350 bed secondary care hospital which offers most medical and surgical specialties with the exception of Cardiothoracic, Plastic and Neurosurgery. The hospital serves a local population of 180,000 but is the centre of the regional head and neck oncology service with responsibility for a population of 550,000.

The Otorhinolaryngology department currently participates in fortnightly Head and Neck MDT and radiology meetings and monthly thyroid MDT and pathology meetings. It also hosts a monthly half day CDP meeting with otorhinolaryngologists attending from Whanganui, Taranaki and Hawke’s Bay.

Palmerston North is a city in the Lower North Island of New Zealand, located within 2 hours drive from Wellington with a well-connected domestic airport. Tramping in the Ruahine and Tararua ranges is within an hour by car and Skiing at Mount Ruapehu is an easy three hour drive.

To be eligible for this position you must be either registered or able to gain registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and have a specialist qualification in Otolaryngology that is recognised by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Otolaryngology/Head and Neck) as suitable for Vocational Registration in New Zealand. (Please see www.mcnz.co.nz for further information).

Following full registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand the successful applicants will be given the opportunity to join Totara House Private Rooms, should they wish to pursue private practice.
