Medical Education Fellow
The Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) service at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is a dynamic and innovative department, which designs and delivers both traditional teaching sessions, courses and exam preparation as well as novel use of simulation, virtual reality and technology-enhanced solutions for education. The department has also been at the vanguard of advances in multiprofessional education and supporting international-educated healthcare professionals, which have been showcased at conferences and workshops nationally and internationally.
GOSH are therefore delighted to invite a motivated and energetic trainee to join our team as a Fellow in Medical Education. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a Speciality Registrar or equivalent grade to develop their skills in medical education while still being able to continue limited clinical activity in the area of their choice in the year-long post.
You will work within the education department four days a week and in their chosen clinical area for the other day of the week to maintain their clinical skills. This post is offered as a one year full-time Fellowship to work with the Deputy Medical Director for Medical Education and the PGME Team at GOSH to develop and run a number of novel educational initiatives and maintain teaching and training across the Trust.
This fellowship will also give experience of education governance, as the role will facilitate working with the PGME team to ensure GOSH is able to respond as needed to changes in commissioning, revalidation and visits from GMC and HENCEL. You will engage in faculty development supporting the Postgraduate Training Committee, developing the Junior Doctors Forum team and supporting departments to continue to deliver high quality education and training. The post is for 12 months during 2019/2020 to start at the beginning of March 2019. You will be accountable to their consultant supervisor for any clinical work carried out and the Deputy Medical Director for Medical Education for the Trust.
You will be offered support to complete a Postgraduate Medical Education qualification during this post.
We welcome applications from a Specialist Trainees 4-8 in medical training (or equivalent) for non UK training applicants.
If the successfully appointed candidate is currently in a recognised Deanery training post, it is possible that this post can be undertaken as an Out of Training Experience with consent/approval from their local Deanery.
