If you’ve ever dreamt of living in a place which brings together the convenience of living in a city with the lifestyle associated with a home in a rural idyll, Herefordshire is the place for you.
Wye Valley NHS Trust’s Department of Paediatrics is seeking to recruit a consultant paediatrician to expand our consultant team to 13. This expansion will allow us to deliver a sustainable consultant delivered service to the children of Herefordshire. The department offers first class paediatric medicine with a friendly team and delivers a comprehensive range of services. A good general Paediatric and Neonatal background is the priority and practical skills are essential. Special interests to complement the team are welcomed, for example in oncology. Additionally the opportunities exist for on-the-job development of special interests if desired to complement the existing local specialist services and tertiary outreach clinics.
To enable the delivery of this style of care all consultants are resident on call at night. Resident consultant delivered care has been operating successfully for over a decade in our department and we have excellent consultant staff retention. Evening and weekend cover is well supported as we have two tiers of junior doctors and a twilight shift system. The resident nature of the on call provides for substantial time off during the week because daytime activity is adjusted accordingly – this is well illustrated in the work schedule on page 7 of the job description.
The City of Hereford and surrounding market towns offer a wide variety of lifestyles blending the traditional with the modern. This is a county of contrasts where walkers enjoy breath-taking views, adrenalin seekers rave about our rock faces and river rapids, and connoisseurs of fine food enthuse about the quality of our locally grown produce. Cycling, canoeing, climbing and kayaking sit neatly alongside theatres, art galleries, museums, festivals and more. There’s something for everyone. House prices compare favourably with other areas of the country. There is excellent state education at both primary and secondary school level, including a sixth form college voted ‘Sixth Form College of the Year’ by the Times Educational Supplement in 2016.
Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to visit to see the unit and chat informally to staff. Please contact:
