This is a substantive full time appointment to the post of Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine based at Newham university Hospital.

Great things are happening at Newham. The consultant numbers are expanding and we are getting ready to welcome new trainees! You will join a team of 5 intensive care consultants providing 24/7 ICU cover. This is worked in week long blocks with on-call responsibility shared within the team. There is funding to increase the establishment to 7 consultants (3 full time including this post, and 4 part time). There are 10 registrar posts including an ICM trainee and an Educational Fellow, there are 2 F3/SHO posts and support from physiotherapy, speech and language, pharmacy and nutrition.

The ICU has currently eight beds providing general critical care to the local population. There are over 400 admissions per year with a challenging case mix of acute medical and surgical emergencies.

There are plans for the development of critical care services at Newham with the construction of a 10-12 bed ICU and an increased staff base- This appointment will help to realise those plans and will play a key role in the development of Critical Care at Newham.

We have strong links with the Critical Care Units within Barts Health and we play an active role in the North East and North Central London Adult Critical Care Network. Applicants must hold a CCT (or equivalent) in ICM, anaesthesia, medicine or emergency medicine or be within 6 months of obtaining this at the time of interview and have advanced training in ICM.
