An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Consultant Cardiologist to help develop the cardiology services at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. There has recently been allocation from the Department of Health and Social Care of £312 million to improve the healthcare infrastructure within Shropshire. As part of this funding there are plans for major developments to the Cardiology Services available in the County. Accordingly we are open to candidates who offer a variety of skills that would support and advance our existing services. Bespoke assistance will be given to the successful candidate in the development of their interests as appropriate.
You will be part of a team of nine Consultant Cardiologists serving a 560,000 population across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Mid-Wales. The post will have a cross County commitment, with sessions at both the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury. You will also be an active member of the General Cardiology service provided by the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust and will have a 1:7 on call commitment for Cardiology. There is no General Medical commitment associated with this post.
The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital has a 8 bed CCU and 12 other dedicated cardiology beds. The Princess Royal Hospital has a 5 bedded CCU, a 20 bed cardiology ward and a dedicated day case area. In-house diagnostic coronary angiography is performed at the Princess Royal Hospital and our Interventional Cardiologists have sessions at a regional PCI centre. Our successful Cardiac Imaging service provides both simple and complex echocardiography together with Cardiac CT and Cardiac MRI. We provide a bradycardia and complex device service and have regular in-reach sessions in Cardio-thoracic Surgery, Electrophysiology and Adult Congenital Heart Disease. Consultants at both Hospitals are supported by junior Doctors and a dedicated team of Specialist Nurses, efficient secretarial support and an excellent cardiorespiratory department.
You must have full GMC registration with a licence to Practice. You must be eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of your expected CCT in Cardiology or equivalent at the time of interview.
Shropshire is an area of outstanding natural beauty and offers extensive outdoor recreational facilities. There is easy access to North Wales and the Welsh Coast. The M54 motorway starts just outside Shrewsbury and provides a rapid link to the national motorway network. Housing standards are high in the county with good local state and private schools.
