Older Age Consultant Psychiatrist
Mental Health Liaison Team
Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust provides health and social care services across a variety of care settings in and across Sussex, Hampshire, Kent and Medway. We aim to realise the potential of everyone who uses its services and to enable staff and bank workers to do a great job; we believe great things are possible if we never give up.
The Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Psychiatrist to work with the Mental Health Liaison Team based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. This post is (10PA) and the post-holder will work as part of the MDT responding to the needs of patients with mental health needs who attend the emergency department and/or are admitted to the emergency department linked wards and the general hospital acute wards. The Consultant Psychiatrist will provide senior medical input and clinical leadership to the MHLT and will be involved in the assessment and management of older adults who are experiencing a crisis in their mental health and to work collaboratively with clinicians in the acute Trust to ensure that co-morbid health needs are identified and appropriately managed.
Patients may be subject to detention under the Mental Health Act, and as such, there is a requirement for the Consultant Psychiatrist to undertake MHA-related work (preparation of MHA-related reports and attendance at MHA-related hearings). It is also expected that patients may be subject to DOLS and the Mental Capacity Act. The post holder will work alongside the General Adult Consultant Psychiatrists and the other members of the MHLT clinical team. This post will increase the existing resource for Older Age Psychiatry that is currently available at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
