The Trust is looking to recruit a Consultant in Medicine for Older People with a specialist interest in Acute and Interface Geriatrics or with a special interest in stroke. The Department has a strong commitment to Intermediate and community care and has close working relationships with NHS Dorset. Dorset County Hospital is seeking an experienced individual who is dynamic and motivated to advance our services particularly for older people admitted acutely to the hospital via the emergency department and acute admissions unit.
There will be involvement with the development of a robust POPS (proactive care for older people undergoing surgery) service and the evolving community hubs in west Dorset, which have gained national acclaim with the development of the Community Hub in Weymouth and Portland.
Having recently been named as providing one of best stroke services in the South West, Dorset County Hospital is seeking an experienced individual who is dynamic and motivated to build on the achievements of the last year. The appointee will be expected to and be given time to develop their interests in Medicine for Older People and to take a lead in Stroke Services.
The appointee will join an enthusiastic team of consultants providing acute Elderly Care. Specialist services are also provided in Ortho Geriatrics and Parkinson’s Disease. Together with other members of the team, this appointment will also facilitate the development of the Trust’s frailty pathway, both within and outside the hospital in collaboration with Dorset HealthCare.
The appointee will participate in the on-call rota.
