Consultant in Sexual Health and HIV Medicine
Applications are invited for a permanent posts in Sexual Health/HIV Ealing Hospital & Community Clinics (1 post), part of the London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of the most ethnically diverse areas of the UK with a team renowned for innovation in health care.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership for the delivery of the highest standards of patient care and service developments.
Requirements for the Post
The consultant will be expected to work with consultant colleagues and department members to provide a clinical Sexual Health and HIV service.
Also he/she will need to:
- Provide safe and effective care in line with departmental and national guidelines
- Help to facilitate the departmental audit programme.
- Teach undergraduate medical students and nurses in clinic
- Supervise junior doctors in clinic
Clinical duties will include:
- Provision of 2 HIV clinics and 5 sexual health clinics
- Work towards providing a fully integrated sexual health service with an emphasis on STI testing/treatment but with contraception provision
- Provide OP HIV care
ISRH attendances in the borough are approximately 25-30,000 per annum (former GUM and CASH combined) although are expected to fall with the advent of the on-line testing service. The ISRH clinics will be largely provided from community sites in Ealing. The hospital clinic also looks after 6-700 HIV patients.
The ISRH Services
The clinics operate a mixed walk-in and appointment policy. Clinics sessions open mornings, afternoons, evenings and Saturday mornings. Network of provision including Primary Care, Pharmacies, Brook, THT and Spectra. GP trainees are rotated into innovative training posts working in the clinics and this enhances our relationship with primary care. We also have CT1-2 and Specialty Grade doctors.
The HIV Services
We have 4 clinics in Ealing, Central Middlesex, Northwick Park Hospitals and
Hillingdon. In-patients are looked after by Infectious Diseases, with whom we work closely.
