Renowned for its sandy beaches and granite cliffs, mild climate and close proximity to France, Guernsey offers a high quality of life in a beautiful environment. The unique consultant-delivered healthcare system offers a combination of high quality medicine and continuity of care.

We are seeking to appoint a Consultant General Physician with an interest in Gastroenterology.  This is a new post due to increasing workload, in part due to a successful bowel cancer screening programme.

A subspecialist interest in luminal or liver disease would be welcomed but not essential. ERCP competence is not essential. The post holder will join an already established Gastroenterologist. A good knowledge of general and acute medicine is required.

This is an ideal opportunity for a committed Gastroenterologist to help shape the future development of Gastroenterology services in a small though busy island unit.

Services provided, including most standard therapeutics, are: upper endoscopy (including stenting, banding), flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy, PEG, PEJ, enteroscopy and ERCP.

EUS, 24hr pH and oesophageal manometry, HALO and gastro-oesophageal EMR are currently referred off-Island.

Guernsey does not have junior doctors and so consultants have more direct patient involvement and are able to provide excellent continuity of care. There is excellent support from the radiology department, with easy availability of MRI and CT. A new state of the art CT scanner and SPECT-CT will be installed in 2019. The MRI scanner is due to be upgraded in 2020.

Enquiries can be made to Dr Hamish Duncan (email or Dr Dean Patterson (email Information packs are available from or telephone the HR department on 01481 239988.

Closing date: 8th October 2018
Interviews: 10th November 2018
