About Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT):

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is a major teaching Trust encompassing 9 hospitals alongside community services for both adults and children: Altrincham, Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI), Manchester Royal Eye Hospital (MREH), Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH), St. Mary’s Hospital (SMH), Trafford Hospital, the University Dental Hospital, Wythenshawe Hospital and Withington Community Hospital, plus North Manchester General Hospital in 2019. We’re working together provide a single hospital service, pooling our knowledge, skills and resources to make a real difference to the health outcomes and quality of life for the people of Manchester and beyond.

As the leading provider of tertiary and specialist healthcare services in Manchester, we treat more than a million patients every year. We’re also England’s largest provider of specialised services, and are leading the way in service re-design as part of the Shelford Group. We have a strong academic record, too. Working in partnership with The University of Manchester and other collaborators we’re making Manchester a centre of cutting-edge research to help improve healthcare worldwide.

Emergency Medicine at MFT:

We’re transforming Emergency Medicine in Manchester, with significant investment to ensure that it’s fully prepared to provide citywide care in a safe and timely manner.

Manchester Royal infirmary is in the process of redeveloping the Emergency Department which, when completed in June 2021, will be the largest in Manchester to support its management of major trauma across the region. Consultants from MRI undertake sessions in the Paediatric Emergency Department of Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. Both hospitals being based at our Oxford Road campus.

North Manchester General Hospital has a full A&E Department, with a separate Paediatric A&E team and a strong acute medical team. It also has a strong, positive and vibrant future. While future plans are being developed, investment in the site is continuing, with £5m currently being spent on upgrading the hospital site. We have an excellent track record for consultant development in education, management, governance and service improvement. The site offers teaching hospital opportunities in a DGH environment.

Wythenshawe Hospital has recently completed Phase 1 of a £15m new build and regeneration scheme, and work is ongoing to complete the next phase. When finished this will provide a state-of-the-art clinical workspace allowing the team to thrive in providing exceptional patient care every day.
