Consultants in Emergency Medicine
Nestled in the heart of Cheshire, with green fields bordering the site on every side, Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust staff benefit from great work, home, education and leisure opportunities. The Trust has three sites, including its headquarters at Leighton Hospital in Crewe – 35 minutes from Manchester or Liverpool and less than an hour away from Birmingham, yet only half an hour away from the Peak District. There are some excellent day nurseries and schools in the local area, including 22 Ofsted “Outstanding Providers”.
The Trust has a formal clinical partnership with its nearby University Hospital, benefits from local universities in Crewe (Manchester Metropolitan University) and in Chester.
The Trust was rated as ‘Good’ by the CQC from its October 2014 full inspection, has a good reputation for research and benefits from some of the very latest clinical facilities; these include Critical Care, neonatal intensive care, a new suite of state-of-the-art theatres and a dedicated day case Treatment Centre. The Trust has invested significantly in recent years in clinical expansion and hospital mortality is ‘As Expected’ across a range of indicators.
Applications are invited for two Consultants in Emergency Medicine. The successful candidates will join a team of 9.2 whole time equivalent Consultants (including these posts). Both posts are new posts following a review of the ED workforce as part of ongoing development and expansion of the Emergency Department medical workforce. We are also funded for ten middle grade doctors and nine GPST/FY2 trainees.
The Emergency Department (ED) at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is pro-active and progressive and provides emergency services for the local population of approximately 290,000.
The department houses a five bedded resuscitation suite, 10 majors cubicles, a dedicated minor injury area and an eight bedded Clinical Decisions Unit. There are plans to expand the current Majors bed-base in the next few months.
The GP Nights, Evening and Weekend (NEW) service is co-located with the Emergency Department to provide out-of-hours primary care services. There is also an Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) that is co-located with the Emergency Department. Both services have recently become part of the Mid Cheshire Hospitals Foundation Trust and there is a considerable amount of collaborative working between the ED and primary care.
The Trust is an accredited Trauma Unit and is part of the North West Midlands and North Wales Trauma Network. We work very closely with our nearest designated Trauma Centre at the Royal Stoke University Hospital (RSUH).
Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including a License to Practice, and be on the Specialist Register (or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training).
The posts are offered on a full-time basis. However, the Trust would welcome discussion with individuals looking for a more flexible working pattern to support a different work life balance.
Shortlisted candidates will be expected to visit the department prior to interview.
