Consultant in Urology [with Special Interest in Laparoscopic Kidney Surgery]
Applications are invited for the post of consultant in urology. This is a replacement post and the successful candidate will join a dynamic team of six consultants providing urological services in Sandwell and West Birmingham. Each Consultant has developed a special interest to provide a service in the different urological subspecialties. The post holder will have a thorough training in all aspects of general urology and be expected to develop a special interest to complement those of the team. Expertise in Upper Tract Laparoscopic surgery is highly desirable.
The Trust is one of the largest Teaching Trusts in the UK, employing around7500 staff, serving a population of over 500,000 and having around 1000beds. In partnership with CCGs and Local Authorities the Trust is seeking to deliver an ambitious redevelopment of local health services including newmodels of care and facilities. The plan includes a new state of the art acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan Hospital, which is set to be completed in the next few years. The Midland Met will have dedicated urology theatre and wards. Lithotripsy is provided on site within the Birmingham Treatment Centre by a visiting mobile service.
The Trust has a very good reputation for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching with strong links to the University of Birmingham and Health Education West Midlands. The Trust is home to a number of University departments and we are now looking to develop research capacity in a number of specialties in the Trust including Urology and General Surgery, so there is likely to be opportunities to become involved in research activities.

Applicants must possess full registration with the GMC, FRCS (or equivalent) and a higher qualification is desirable. It is essential that applicants are either included on the GMC Specialist Register in Urology or be within 6 months of receiving their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent at the time of the interview.
