Consultant in Cardiology (Electrophysiology)
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Cardiac team as Consultant Cardiologist, with an interest in Electrophysiology as a replacement post (due to retirement), complementing the existing 13 full time and 1 part time consultant cardiologists, 5 cardio-thoracic surgeons and 6 cardiac anaesthetists.
Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals is the regional teaching hospital, providing general acute services to Brighton and Hove and Mid Sussex and tertiary services for patients across Sussex and the south east of England. Working as one hospital across two sites in Brighton and Haywards Heath, we treat over half a million patients a year.
We provide a full adult cardiac service to the local population of approaching 500,000 and a tertiary service to the wider Sussex population of 1.5 million, including percutaneous intervention (with PPCI 24/7), structural intervention (TAVI, PFO, ASD, Mitral, Paravalvular leak), complex electrophysiology, device Implantation, laser extraction, and cardiac Surgery.
We undertake around 550 EP cases and 600 device procedures every year. We currently use the Precision, Carto 3 and Rhythmia 3D mapping systems within two catheter Labs.
We perform a wide range of interventional EP procedures including novel techniques for epicardial VT ablation, including percutaneous and surgical access. BSUH is a reference centre for cryo ablation and VT ablation, offering live course teaching in cryo-ablation for atrial fibrillation, normal heart VT ablation and epicardial VT ablation. In addition we undertake advanced device techniques including lead extraction, subcutaneous ICD and interventional techniques for CRT implantion.
