Consultant in Upper GI Surgery
Applications are invited for this replacement post at Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge Hospitals. The appointee will join an existing team of 3 Upper GI surgeons, within a team of 9 Consultant General Surgeons and 4 Consultants in Emergency Surgery. The Upper GI service is renowned for its friendly and supportive nature. The appointee will share in the provision of elective and emergency services to the population of Wirral. Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge Hospitals are busy, progressive, well equipped hospitals, with good junior support and excellent educational facilities.
Applicants should have wide general surgical experience and have been fully trained in benign upper GI surgery. The trust 5 year strategy includes the development of bariatric surgery and currently has two fully trained, nationally recognized bariatric surgeons. Experience in bariatric surgery although preferred is not essential. Candidates with formal qualifications in medical education are encouraged to apply and support is available through the Faculty of Surgical Education to deliver training of the highest quality. Upper GI cancer work is provided by one of the team at the regional centre in Liverpool. The department of surgery has an exciting research fellow programme with past fellows obtaining a higher degree and entering higher surgical training. There is enormous scope and support for surgeons interested in research to be supported by the trust and fellows in new projects. Applicants should be on the Specialist Register, hold CCST/CCT or be within six months of obtaining at the time of interview.
The person appointed will join an existing team comprising of three upper GI Consultants, two Nurse Specialists and one surgical care practitioner. A nominated mentor will be available. Duties will include elective and emergency upper GI surgery and on call general surgery.
