Consultant in Elderly Medicine
Want to work in a dynamic and growing department with lots of opportunities to develop services and subspecialty interests? If the answer is ‘yes’, then we need you!
The Department of Medicine for the Elderly (DoME) at Mid Essex NHS Trust is delighted to offer 2 newly created Consultant Geriatrician posts to support the development of frailty services across the Mid Essex region.
The successful candidates will work alongside eight substantive Consultant Geriatricians to support the expansion of the acute Frailty Ward and the creation of a new Ambulatory Frailty Unit. The post holders will also provide community support for frailty ‘hubs’ at our Intermediate Care facilities. It is expected that the post holder will also participate in a reasonable on-call rota.
The DoME has undergone significant change in the past 3 years with new appointments and expansion of service provision across the acute and community settings. The acute frailty service is a highly performing multidisciplinary unit and currently boasts the title of ‘Team of the Year’. Add into the pot the Mid-Basildon-Southend Sustainability Transformation Plan (MSB STP for short!) and the expansion of the Queen Mary and Westfield Medical school and Anglia Ruskin University (through the creation of a new medical school), and there are great opportunities for the development of surgical liaison, medical education and future expansion of the workforce.
The department is good humoured, hard-working and nearly all of our Consultants have taken on lead roles for additional services within the Trust (e.g. STP frailty, 7-day working, medical examiner, deteriorating patient etc). We also want to ensure a good work-life balance and so work flexibly to accommodate individual’s needs and ensure the tea and coffee fund is always toped up! Less than full-time candidates are welcome to apply. The hospital boasts an excellent on-site Nursery which is highly rated and the Chelmsford town centre is rapidly developing in light of new city status. The local area boasts several good schools with rapid transport links into and out of London.
Closing Date of Application: 28th August 2018.
Interview date (AAC Panel): 13th September 2018.
