Consultant Immunologist and Allergist
Applications are invited for a Consultant Immunologist to join our committed and enthusiastic forward-thinking team supporting both immunology laboratory and clinical immunology and allergy services.
This is a joint appointment between University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) NHS Trust and Kettering General Hospital (KGH) NHS Foundation Trust but with the post holder based mainly at the UHL site. The post holder will cover Immunology and Allergy clinics at KGH as well the specialist Immunology clinic at UHL. They will work with colleagues within the Trent Immunology and Allergy Consortium (TRIAC) network to ensure provision of a high quality Clinical Immunology and Allergy service.
The postholder will provide clinical leadership of the KGH Immunology laboratory. Laboratory responsibilities will include reporting (including remote reporting) and liaison with service users and planning appropriate immunological investigation of patients.
There is an opportunity to participate in reporting of flow cytometry in haematological malignancy within the context of a Haematological Malignancy Diagnostic Laboratory service (training will be provided if necessary). You will ensure the delivery of a high quality laboratory service to nationally accepted standards (UKAS), and be involved in the harmonisation and integration of Immunology laboratory services within the network of pathology providers.
Participation in the on call rota (UHL only) is for provision of clinical telephone advice.
You are expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching (including supervision, training, assessment and appraisal of specialist registrars, clinical scientists, and trainee healthcare scientists), clinical audit, research and development. You will also be required to undertake management duties and work within a multidisciplinary team.
The appointment is whole time. Any consultant who is unable for personal reasons, to work whole time, will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with consultant colleagues.
Membership of the Royal College of Pathologists, and full GMC registration with a licence to practice is a requirement.
The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are working together within the local pathology network. Both Trusts are fully committed to Continuing Medical Education for Consultants.
