Consultant Physician in Stroke Medicine
Applications are invited for the above full time post for this 650 bed acute hospital with regional HASU stroke service. The catchment population for Stroke Medicine is 750,000 from Bedfordshire, North Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes.
The directorate of stroke medicine offers 24/7 thrombolysis service and daily TIA clinics with one stop MRI and carotid doppler. You will work on a rota to cover these areas, with existing four consultants. Pursuit of a specialist interest in neuro intervention, thrombolysis, stroke imaging is encouraged, subject to mutually agreed timetabling.
The directorate has a very well established Stroke Research Centre with two full time Stroke Research Nurses and one Stroke Research Administrator.
The Hospital has always been renowned for its friendly atmosphere and good working relationships. Ongoing developments are now enabling a considerable expansion in facilities, staff and hence services offered. The Trust has University Hospital status with UCL and the Royal Free provides an opportunity to strengthen our teaching and R&D programme and bring a more academic environment to the hospital. Our links for undergraduate students also include Cambridge Medical School and we have an excellent reputation for junior staff training.
The Trust received an overall Good for services following its last CQC inspection, and was recently announced the only hospital in the country to meet all of the key targets.
The Hospital has easy access to central London and the rural Chilterns. The rural areas include many attractive villages and towns within easy reach of the Hospital including St Albans and Harpenden. Excellent schools are found nearby. There is also very good access to the Midlands and London by road or by rail. London Luton Airport is within fifteen minutes drive of the hospital. Residence is required within ten miles by road or up to thirty minutes travelling time of the hospital.
