Consultant in Paediatric Neurosurgery with interest in Epilepsy Surgery
Since the introduction of the children’s Epilepsy surgery Service in England, Birmingham Children’s Hospital has run a successful and growing program. This appointment is to further expand and develop the program in conjunction with the existing epilepsy surgeon as well as to continue to expand and develop the Paediatric Neurosurgical service in general
Birmingham Children’s Hospital is a large, multidisciplinary dedicated children’s hospital with a capacity of almost 300 beds. There are 11 operating theatres including a separate burns unit theatre and endoscopy unit, 5 other anaesthesia delivery areas and a 31-bedded Intensive Care Unit.
The Paediatric Neurosurgery department at Birmingham Children’s Hospital is well established undertaking more than 600 cranial and spinal operations per year. The unit is designated as one of the 4 centre in England for craniofacial surgery and for Epilepsy surgery by NHS England. Inherited metabolic Disease (IMD) department is one of three national centres for treatment of Muccopolysacharidosis and its spinal involvement. The hospital has a wide range of other regional and national paediatric specialties.
