This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and ambitious Senior Medical Adult Services (SAMS) Team at St Peter’s Hospital. Applications are invited for a Consultant in Geriatric Medicine. 

It is widely recognised that the care of the older person in acute hospitals is putting and increased demand on its services. We are looking to recruit a Geriatrician with varying interests and skills in order to enhance and develop our current service provision. The Department currently provides specialist services for falls, acute frailty, community services (Locality Hubs), dementia, Parkinson’s disease & Orthogeriatrics. The trust is keen to develop an outstanding geriatric service and is looking for a highly motivated and innovative physician to supplement the present team.
The Trust is also committed to supporting the concept of seamless care, with our department previously winning the prestigious HSJ Award for Managing Long Term Conditions for our Nursing Home Project in 2012 and RCP Excellent in Patient Care Award in 2017. The post holder will therefore be expected to have a sub speciality interest. In addition to the Geriatric component of the post, there are General Medicine on-call commitments and outpatient clinics. 

Candidates wishing to develop an interest in stroke, appropriate training and supervision will be provided.

The Trust has strong links with Imperial College School of Medicine and St George’s. You must be holders of a CCT in General Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine or within six months of obtaining such a CCT.

Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals became a Foundation Trust in December 2010 and was formed by the merger of St Peter’s Hospital and Ashford Hospital in 1998. It is the largest non-teaching Trust in the region and provides a full range of acute hospital services. Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of around 450,000 from an area which includes Chertsey, Woking, Walton-on-Thames, Weybridge, Staines, Bedfont, Feltham and Spelthorne. There are 413 beds in a range of specialties. There is a full range of imaging services including CT and MRI scanning and laboratory services. Both Hospitals have a modern Postgraduate Centre with library services.

Ashford and St Peters Hospital is situated on the western border of the M25 near London Heathrow. Being in Surrey it provides an enviable variety and highly sort after attractive places to live and is easily commutable to/from Central London. There are excellent local schools and plenty of outdoor pursuits nearby. In the immediate locality there are leisure centres, golf courses and beautiful stretches of the Thames river bank.  Windsor, Virginia Water, Runnymede, Hampton Court, Wisley (RHS) Gardens and other places of interest are within an easy 10 mile radius.

The hospital has very close links with the Institute of Cardiovascular Research based at the nearby Royal Holloway College, University of London. The Institute has an international reputation in cardiovascular research regularly publishing in some of the most prestigious medical journals in the world and attracting millions of pounds/euros of funding under its current Director, Professor Pankaj Sharma.
