Austin Health is one of Victoria’s largest healthcare providers and an internationally recognised leader in clinical teaching, training and research. The health service employs 8,900 staff; including over 1,000 doctors and 3,000 nurses and delivers a comprehensive range of leading edge clinical services, as well as state-wide services - liver transplant, spinal cord injury, respiratory support and child inpatient mental health services. Austin Health provides over 900 beds, including mental health, aged care and rehabilitation beds and a range of community and in the home services. Its annual operating budget is more than $900 million.

The Director, General Medicine (the Director) will be responsible, in collaboration with the Divisional Management Team, for leading all strategic andoperational facets of the General Medicine service to ensure the provision of safe, effective and efficient care. The Medical Services Division has developed a Road Map for the future but are very open to considering new ideas. One of their objectives is to review the model of care and unit structure in General Medicine and are looking to the Director to lead this process.

Reporting to the Division of Medical Services, Medical Director, you will be responsible for the delivery of clinical care, teaching, training, research, quality and management across General Medicine. The unit has a total of 25 staff and you will be supported by a Divisional Manager. Other direct reports include a Deputy Director, a Director of Research and a Director of Quality.

A highly accomplished clinical leader in your own right (FRACP or equivalent), with a commitment to leading change to develop a new model of care in the unit, you will contribute significantly to the transformation of the General Medicine Unit at Austin Health. You will also continue to provide clinical services, but generous time allocation has been allowed to support the undertaking of your leadership responsibilities.
