Are you interested in the care of high-risk patients undergoing complex surgery? Do you want to engage in evidence-based perioperative management and postoperative critical care using state-of-the-art technology? Do you find resuscitation and the management of life-threatening emergencies rewarding?
Then you should apply as a consultant anaesthetist at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals, a large university teaching hospital and tertiary referral centre with a stimulating and challenging case-mix. You would join a team of 71 consultants, 12 core trainees, 18 specialist trainees, 2 clinical fellows and 4 physician’s assistants in anaesthesia, supported by a great team of nurses, HCAs, ODPs, and porters. You would be expected to contribute to the out-of-hours commitments of the department. We maintain close links with the University of Liverpool and are committed to undergraduate and postgraduate training. There is strong support for research within the Trust and the directorate.
Post 1 is suitable for applicants with a special interest in Pain Medicine. The Pain Medicine service provides inpatient services across two hospital sites, and local Hospices. The outpatient services are at Broadgreen Hospital within a new purpose built Pain Medicine unit. The Pain Medicine unit contains outpatient facilities and a dedicated theatre suite and recovery for pain management procedures. You would join a dedicated team who review 4700 inpatients and 4000 outpatients per year. You would also have an opportunity to work with the Liverpool Refractory Angina Centre, providing a patient centred multidisciplinary approach to the management of angina pain.
Post 2 is suitable for applicants with a special interest in perioperative medicine including preoperative assessment clinics. The anaesthetic department hosts the Trust’s preoperative assessment service and plays a central role in risk stratification, shared decision-making and pre-optimisation for surgical patients. A certified CPET laboratory is available.
Post 3 is co-funded by the Liverpool Women’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, a large obstetric unit and tertiary referral centre, reflecting our close cooperation. If you have a special interest and experience in obstetric anaesthesia, you should feel strongly encouraged to apply for this post. Please make this clear in your application. You would be employed by RLBUHT and would fulfil a substantial proportion of your contractual obligations including your on-call commitments at the Liverpool Women’s Hospital.
You need to be on the GMC specialist register or eligible to entry within 6 months.
