You are invited for a Consultant in Microbiology at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. 

This is a replacement post offering 10 programmed activities with a substantive consultant currently in post. Additional programmed activities may be available upon agreement depending on the experience of the individual and availability of additional roles. 

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and committed individual to join 1.5 full time Consultants to contribute to the development of a comprehensive clinical and laboratory Microbiology service. You will also be part of a team providing infection prevention and control service and antimicrobial stewardship within the Trust. You would be expected to participate in antimicrobial stewardship activities and depending on experience, take on the Antimicrobial Stewardship Lead role.  

You should possess the FRCPath (Medical Microbiology) or equivalent qualification and be on the Specialist register of the GMC (or within 6 months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview). Applicants with joint training in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology are also encouraged to apply as there will be opportunities to support the Infectious Diseases service. 

Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, in partnership with the University of Buckingham, is a University Teaching Hospital. This allows us to attract, train and retain the best doctors and contribute towards the financial stability of the organisation.

This is also an important step towards establishing the trust as a world-class centre for teaching excellence. The first students arrived on wards in May 2015 and a medical school building is under construction, which will also create exciting opportunities in the future for all staff in the fields of clinical research and education.  

This exciting phase will include opportunities for undergraduate and post graduate teaching, enhanced research facilities. A teaching and research background would be highly advantageous when applying for this position.
