Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust, rated ‘outstanding’ overall by CQC in June 2018, is one of the largest community health and care service providers in the UK. The Trust has begun an exciting journey to re-shape palliative care services. Our goal is to provide high quality community based palliative care to all within a model that supports patients to be cared for closer to home. Recent developments have included re-design of services in West Norfolk, with the Integrated Palliative Care Team now being based within a new and purpose-built hospice: Norfolk Hospice Tapping House.

Having recently recruited a substantive community-based consultant, this consultant post will focus primarily on reaching in to develop the Specialist Palliative Care Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn. The post offers cross-over via attendance at the Community MDT and there is flexibility within the job plans to allow for developing sub-specialty interests, including a specifically identified and exciting link for two sessions for two years with the University of Cambridge Palliative and End of Life Research Group.

The Hospice currently has an active day therapy service and a ‘Hospice at Home’ team. It has recently opened six nurse-led ‘Last days of Life’ inpatient beds and anticipates progressing into a Specialist Palliative Care unit over the next few years. The post holder will have the opportunity to make their mark on developing services at an exciting time.

The successful applicants will work with the community consultant and existing consultants in palliative medicine in Norwich and Cambridge, thus ensuring peer support and mentorship. They will join the Norwich Consultant colleagues in a 1 in 8 second on call rota. Norfolk offers a rich mix of leisure opportunities with urban, rural and stunning coastal landscapes in one of the most open and unspoiled areas of the country. It is also within easy reach of Cambridge, London and the Midlands.
