The UCLH Cancer Collaborative is the Cancer Alliance for north and east London and brings together hospital trusts, GPs, health service commissioners, local authorities and those affected by cancer to improve early cancer diagnosis, outcomes and care for patients in our area.

Our mission is to achieve world-leading patient outcomes and experience for the population we serve and to continue to be at the forefront of developing and testing new cancer care models that can be replicated nationally to accelerate delivery of the national cancer strategy.

UCLH Cancer Collaborative is seeking to appoint a new Chief Medical Officer in 2019, following on from Professor Kathy Pritchard-Jones. This is an exceptional opportunity for a clinician interested in health service improvement and cancer outcomes.

Over the last six years UCLH Cancer Collaborative (including London Cancer, which is now part of the Collaborative) has led the development of a cancer system serving 3.6 million people.

As part of the National Cancer Vanguard the Collaborative has been at the forefront of innovation. We have moved into a new phase as the cancer alliance for our geography, with significant funding from the NHS and third sector, strengthening our system leadership role further.

We are seeking an exceptional cancer clinician to spearhead this system leadership role for cancer. This role is significant in terms of both breadth of coverage across the patient journey (from prevention through early diagnosis to treatment and end of life) and geographical influence (across the 11 trusts, 13 CCGs and 3.6 million population of great social and cultural diversity).

The CMO works alongside the programme director, heads the senior clinical leadership team (22 tumour pathway and expert reference group directors and other clinicians involved in the six major workstreams) and influences across the region and nationally.

There is scope to incorporate the Cancer Programme Director role at UCL Partners, the Academic Health Science Network, for a candidate with appropriate research credentials.
