Consultant in Haematology
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Haematology at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro.
The Haematology Department at the Royal Cornwall Hospital is a friendly and cohesive team. This post is a replacement full time (10PA) post, as one of seven consultants. We are supported by a specialty registrar and four clinical nurse specialists.
We provide services for Mid and West Cornwall, a population of approximately 450,000. The Department provides BCSH level 2b care with 12,500 outpatient and 5000 intravenous infusions attendances per annum.
Additional capacity is supplied by a charity funded mobile systemic anti-cancer therapy unit commissioned in July 2015. An 18 bedded Haematology-Oncology ward including five air-filtered side rooms is shared with oncology. Our Macmillan Cancer Support Centre “The Cove” opened in August 2016.
General experience in malignant and non-malignant haematology is essential. An interest in haemostasis and/or plasma cell dyscrasia is preferred, but there will be flexibility once appointed to develop subspecialty interest according to individual preference
We have a Haematology Trials Team with 9 staff. We have an excellent participation rate in Phase III National clinical trials and are quick to engage with newly available trials. We have also performed Phase I and II research locally.
RCHT is part of the University of Exeter Medical School, a Russell Group University. We have a strong record of undergraduate teaching with an emphasis on clinical and problem based learning.
