Specialty Doctor in Paediatric Palliative Medicine
This is a 10 PA post working within The Louis Dundas Centre for Palliative Care at Great Ormond Street.
This is an established post predominately supporting the in-patient palliative care work within the hospital. The vacancy has arisen due to relocation of the current post holder.
The palliative care service is embedded into GOS hospital practice and receives approximately 200 new referrals per annum, half of which come from within the trust.
In-patient referrals are received from across all clinical units, with many referrals coming from the Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Units and the Cardiac Unit. The team supports approximately 140 deaths each year, around 60% of which are children with non-malignant disease.
You are required to have sound clinical experience in both hospital paediatrics and palliative care. They will be expected to review in-patients daily, working closely with the duty consultant and the multi-disciplinary team. The patient case load at GOSH is diverse and the post offers exceptional experience in paediatric palliative care. It is anticipated that you will be involved in continuing service development and will contribute to the existing research, education and training program.
The post will be supported by the team comprising 2.6 Medical Consultants, 1 Nurse Consultant, 7 Clinical Nurse Specialists, a psychosocial team and an administrative team.
This post would suit a paediatrician seeking to develop further specialist knowledge and expertise in the paediatric palliative medicine. International candidates are encouraged to apply.
MRCPCH (or equivalent) is essential. The post adheres to the EWTD. There will be an on-call commitment, as part of the team’s non-resident out of hour’s telephone support service to families and healthcare professionals. This commitment is always supported by a consultant on call. Annual leave and study leave are covered prospectively.
Based in central London, GOSH offers flexible working, help with childcare and travel, excellent training and development opportunities and assistance with finding somewhere to live.
