South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to employ two enthusiastic Consultant Paediatricians to join a team of experienced and supportive medical professionals who promote a high quality, local service for children in South Warwickshire. Interests in paediatric cardiology or teaching would be welcomed.

Community Children’s Services across Warwickshire and Acute services to the children of South Warwickshire are provided by the South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, commissioned by the CCG. The Trust serves a community of approximately 280,000 in South Warwickshire and the surrounding areas. The Trust is an associate teaching hospital of the Warwick Medical School and Buckingham (from April 2019). There are good working links for all specialist services at tertiary units in Birmingham, Leicester and Oxford.

These posts are to strengthen senior presence during times of emergency pressures and to improve the breadth of outpatient clinics. The Paediatric Department is within the Women’s and Children’s Division.

The Acute services are located at the Warwick Hospital site. The hospital services at Warwick Hospital have seen significant developments in the last five years. The Paediatric Unit provides 18 in patient paediatric beds (7 cubicles and 1 High Dependency Bed) and an adjacent outpatient area for children.

We also have a Level 1 Special Care Baby Unit with 11 funded cots within the maternity department. A Midwifery Led Unit which opened 2nd July 2018 and there are plans afoot for improvement of the SCBU facilities, as well as development of a Paediatric Assessment Unit.

The successful candidate will have acute general paediatric and neonatal responsibilities, and will also see child protection referrals on call. He/She will share an on call commitment for general paediatrics and neonates (stabilisation and transfer) doing a 1:9 on call rota including a consultant of the week model working into the evening.

There is active undergraduate teaching, with 8 medical students being attached to the Paediatric Unit at any one time. These are mature students from Warwick &  Buckingham Medical School. The Medical School has been supported by significant capital investment on the Warwick Hospital site, including a new education building, which houses the medical library facility. The appointee will participate in the teaching of medical students from the Warwick and Buckingham Medical School.

The University of Warwick has a number of international research groups and are very keen to foster clinical research.
